This was created using PSP9 but can be adapted for other versions of PSP.

You will need the following to complete this tutorial

Materials

RIGHT CLICK >>> SAVE TARGET AS

goldfill1.bmp
gold004_mdh.bmp
tp_Canvas5_DAR.bmp
Save to your PSP Patterns folder

Plugins

Open a new image 250 x 300
Transparent background
PSPX: Colour Depth = 8bits/channel


Choose your SELECTION TOOL
Selection Type = Rectangle
Mode = Replace
Feather = 1
Antialias = Checked

Draw a skinny rectangle as shown below



Flood fill with WHITE

DESELECT

IMAGE >>> ROTATE >>> FREE ROTATE
Ensure "All layers" is UNCHECKED



LAYERS >>> NEW RASTER LAYER

LAYERS >>> ARRANGE >>> MOVE DOWN

Flood fill with BLACK (So you can see what you are doing)



With your SELECTION TOOL
Selection Type = Rectangle
Mode = Replace
Feather = 1
Antialias = Checked

Draw a rectangle around the shape.
Click inside the rectangle to select the shape.

In your MATERIALS PALETTE
Load the '
goldfill1 ' pattern in your foreground
using the settings below.



Flood fill the selection with the gold pattern

EFFECTS >>> 3D EFFECTS >>> INNER BEVEL



DESELECT

ADJUST >>> SHARPNESS >>> SHARPEN



LAYERS >>> NEW RASTER LAYER

In your MATERIALS PALETTE

Load SOLID PINK ' #d28f84 ' in your background

With your SELECTION TOOL
Selection Type = CIRCLE
Mode = Replace
Feather = 1
Antialias = Checked

Starting at 50 pixels across and 50 pixels down drag your cursor to
80 pixels across and 80 pixels down

Flood fill with PINK



EFFECTS >>> 3D EFFECTS >>> INNER BEVEL
Same settings

SELECTIONS >>> MODIFY >>> CONTRACT = 10

LAYERS >>> NEW RASTER LAYER

In your MATERIALS PALETTE
Load the '
gold004_mdh.bmp ' pattern in your foreground
using the settings below.



Flood fill with
gold004_mdh.bmp

EFFECTS >>> EDGE EFFECTS >>> ENHANCE



EFFECTS >>> 3D EFFECTS >>> INNER BEVEL
Same settings

CLOSE RASTER 1 & 2

LAYERS >>> MERGE >>> MERGE VISIBLE

OPEN RASTER 1 & 2

Reposition the MERGED layer with your MOVER tool



DELETE RASTER 2

LAYERS >>> MERGE >>> MERGE VISIBLE

Save as straightpin.psp image

OK... let's make it look like it's pushed through fabric




Open a new image 400 x 400
Transparent background
PSPX: Colour Depth = 8bits/channel

Flood fill with '
#98b2bd '

EFFECTS >>> TEXTURE EFFECTS >>> SCULPTURE
COLOUR = '
#98b2bd '



Right click on the Title Bar of the
straightpin.psp image and select COPY from the options

Right click on the Title Bar of your ' fabric ' image
and select PASTE AS NEW LAYER from the options.

Choose your FREEHAND SELECTION TOOL



Create a 'selection ' as shown below



Click inside the 'marching ants' to select the portion of the pin

SELECTION >>> DEFLOAT

SELECTIONS >>> MODIFY >>> EXPAND = 3

EDIT >>> CLEAR

ACTIVATE RASTER 1

Select your LIGHTEN/DARKEN TOOL



Use these settings




Drag your cursor ONCE through the selected area




SELECTIONS >>> MODIFY >>> EXPAND = 3

EFFECTS >>> 3D EFFECTS >>> DROP SHADOW

ACTIVATE RASTER 2

EFFECTS >>> PLUGINS >>> EYE CANDY 3 >>> DROP SHADOW



LAYERS >>> MERGE >>> MERGE VISIBLE
