STAGE 14 LAUGHLIN via SEDONA |
25th January 2001 |
Jared and
I got the front seat of the bus today. We rotated every
day so everyone had a chance to sit at the front. We had
travelled over 700km yesterday... along trip. Today's
trip wasn't as far so we had a 2 hour stopover in Sedona
which is supposed to have mystical powrs. The only mystical power it had over me was to make me buy some of the best non Jenny Craig fudge I'd ever tasted! It was delicious... I might add.. the 3 slabs I bought lasted us until our last day in the States..... that's 6 days... so we didn't pig out on it. <grin>. With the 2 hours up our sleeve I also managed to get a heap of film developed. Silly me... it was easier to carry 5 rolls of film than 121 photos... the photos weighed... Still it was exciting to see the pics of the places we'd been, The weather was really pleasant... and on the way to Laughlin we visited a place called Montezuma's Castle which was a place where Indian dwellings high up on cliff faces had been discovered. Sinagua farmers began building the above 5 story, 20 room dwelling early in the 12th century. They used ladders inside and out for access. The outside ladders were pulled up during the night to keep looters out. You'll find a couple more pictures HERE. We eventually found our way to Flagstaff, on the Colorado River and stayed at the Flamingo Hilton. The weather was great and Jared spied the pool from out window. Yes I let him go. He raced out so fast as I was telling him to look up at the window periodically so he'd know when to come back up... but did he listen.... obviously not... because he never looked up. We could see him from our room and after a while I was waiting for him to appear so I could signal him.... didn't happen. I thought.. he's been gone a while.. an I began to worry. Then a thought struck me... I bet he forgot which room we were in, after all we'd just arrived! I opened the door and sure enough... there he was, sitting in the corridor... crying *S* He HAD forgotten to find out the room number, he just remembered the floor <grin>. This hotel was also a Casino, but not on the same scale as the Las Vegas Casinos. The rooms were eally nice. But we were having troubles repacking our suitcases every night so under George's instruction we headed for a nearby Mall. He accompanied us and kept Jared amused while we purchased 2 more suitcases. A small one for Jared... his backpack as bursting at the seams... and a large one for us. So all the loose bags of purchases we were carrying were tossed into the new bag and we figured we'd sort it all out when we got to L.A. We went down to one of the restaurants for dinner... people everywhere!!! However, since we were smokers... we didn't have to wait for a seat (Ha! Ha!) Sometimes it pays off <grin> I had shrimp whick was O.K. and Mum ordered a Caesar Salad. This is what she got.... check it out! Neither wonder so many Americans have weight problems. Needless to say, she didn't finish it.. we returned to our room.... watched TV and fell asleep. We were heading to L.A tomorrow, the 2nd last day of the tour.... . |
