STAGE 8

SAN FRANCISCO cont....

20th January 2001
Inauguration Day! We'd been watching the parties on TV last night. Can't imagine anyone throwing a party in Australia every time we get a new Prime Minister. Snowing in Washington... but not in San Francisce :-)

Thought we had everything organised. Mum was up most of the night packing... she had about 2 hours sleep, BOY was SHE grumpy!! When the bellman came to collect our luggage I told him we were only going around the corner... would we have to get a taxi?? I couldn't carry everything :-( He said he'd see what he could do.

By the time we got downstairs and said our goodbyes to the Doorman, Dexter, the bellman was out in the street with the luggage trolly, carting our stuff around to the Ramada!! By this time it was 8:05am. He took our things into the lobby of the Ramada and I chased after him... we weren't changing hotels... we were meeting a tour bus... THEN this little voice asked me was I Mrs Furner?? I turned around and here was a tiny little lady... our tour director. The bus had been waiting since 7;30am!!!! Another 10 minutes and they were going to go!! I thought we were supposed to meet the bus and be ready to leave at 8:30am!!

The bellman loaded our luggage and I made sure he was well taken care of :-) He had done us a huge favour!

I collapsed in the seat... front row! We were on our way... only 11 of us on the tour, plus the driver, George and the tour director, Mila .... 13 in total! Which I just realized as I am writing this... some would freak at there being 13 of us.... Like I said I only realised it now, but it's a lucky number for our family and I guess that's why we had such a super time...

So..... we were off to Yosemite....
